Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon
Published in Paperback by Music Sales Corporation (December, 1994)
Average review score:

Definitive Dark Side of the Moon for guitar....
Good As The Original MusicIf you are a guitarist like me, and enjoy Pink Floyd, this is a great book for you. Internet TABS are unpredictiable and inaccurate. This book clears up the confusion by giving the proper TABS to the songs of one of the best selling records of all time. This book is strong in its accuracy from the first note of Speak to me to the haunting melodies of Eclipse. I suggest this book as a gift to any fan of Pink Floyd that has wanted to play there songs.

Portland Cheap Eats: Terrific Bargain Eateries
Published in Paperback by Sasquatch Books (November, 1999)
Average review score:

Expand your eating horizons! My husband and I keep this book in our car so that whenever we're in Portland we can grab it quickly. In addition to the alphabetical listing and descriptions of 200 reasonably priced restaurants, the book has an excellent index. You can look up restaurants by section of town or by the type / style of food you want. Cheap Eats has given us the opportunity to sample many different restaurants that we would never have found without it. Instead of picking the same places over and over, you can expand your choices...and eat well inexpensively.
Great book for budget-conscious restaurant-goersMy husband and I like to eat out at least three times a week, so this book has been very helpful in finding places that won't break the bank. We stay primarily in SE, but it includes restaurants all over town. Highly recommended.

Quick and Easy Newsletters
Published in Paperback by E F Communications (June, 1998)
Average review score:

Newsletter writes itselfThis book (and the inclosed diskette) makes the production of a professional-looking newsletter extremely easy. Just load it into your word processor and start answering the questions. Delete the questions and you will discover that you have written the text... painlessly. I have tried writing newsletters from templates in my word processor and the results were blah. My first newsletter using this book had members of my organization calling me to tell me how great it looked. Needless to say, I took ALL the credit.
Newsletters Made SimpleEven as an experienced newsletter editor, I was very impressed with "Quick and Easy Newsletters". It really covers all the bases. I had my doubts about the author's claim that anyone with no experience would be able to do a newsletter in one afternoon. But after reading through it (and trying out the templates on the CD) I'm convinced it's not only possible but highly likely! The book covers design AND content. It takes you step-by-step through the entire process. Now when people want me to help them do their newsletter, I recommend they buy this book.

Salamanders of Ohio (Bulletin New Series, Vol 7, No 2)
Published in Paperback by Ohio Biological Survey (June, 1989)
Average review score:

Highly recommendedPfingsten and Downs have put together one of the best books on salamanders a person can find. The amount and detail of the information collected is great, and is useful to anyone wishing to learn more about salamanders. The books focus is obviously on Ohio salamanders, which for me is great, but anyone anywhere will find the book useful as a great source of information on the various species. Includes both larval and adult identification guides, and color photos, which are a great help to everyone, novice and expert. I highly recommend this book.
Salamanders of OhioThis is a great book for individuals serious about finding and identifying salamanders. A bit of previous knowledge of salamanders is helpful but not necessary. The amount of life history information given for each species is excellent. Although the book is written specifically for Ohio, most of the identification keys apply to the surrounding states as well. The key to larval salamanders is especially helpful as keys of this nature are difficult to find. Although the book lacks color photos, the black and white photos are good, and the diagrams are quite clear.

Serenade to the Blue Lady: The Story of Bert Stiles
Published in Paperback by Cypress House (June, 1994)
Average review score:

An inseparable companion to "Serenade to the Big Bird"Bert Stiles' "Serenade to the Big Bird" is generally considered to be the finest American literary work, describing the air war over Germany. Luckily, a reprint of this book has recently become available and this will probably boost interest in Bert Stiles and his time. For those who want to know more there is "Serenade to the Blue Lady". Robert Floyd Cooper has put Stiles and his work into perspective. In this biography many questions are answered in an easily readable style. Based on letters, essays and of course "Serenade to the Big Bird" Cooper describes the life and death of Bert Stiles. I have really enjoyed reading it. Many of my questions were answered, such as the identity of "Mac". It is illustrated with unique pictures. The two Serenades are now more or less inseparable and belong side by side on the bookshelf of every student of the air war and anybody interested in the writing of one of America's most gifted writers in the 1940's.
Bert Stiles, airman, talented writer, visionary and hero.Serenade to the Blue Lady is an excellent review of the short life of Bert Stiles. As a writer, Bert was gifted and destined for great things. But it was not to be. He died in action flying a P-51 on an escort mission to Hanover November 26, 1944. Reportedly, he was a victim of target fixation and followed an enemy fighter too close to the ground. Bert's Lady of Luck was the Blue Lady, the seductive siren of the sky. She has lured many others to bask in her arms among the clouds. Jeffrey L. Ethell was enthralled by her and wrote several books extolling the wonders of flight and the men and women who flew. But the song of the siren is often irresitible and dangerous. Jeffrey died in a crash while piloting a vintage P-38 in 1997. However, in 1994 he wrote a letter to me stating, "I have been fascinated with Bert Stiles since reading "Serenade to the Big Bird" in 1959. Another writer of merit and historian of the 8th Air Force is Roger A. Freeman who stated, "I have treasured a copy of Serenade to the Big Bird since 1947. Indeed it has become something of a classic." Serenade to the Blue Lady tells the story of this outstanding young man. I feel certain that the fame of Bert Stiles will continue to grow and that his book Serenade to the Big Bird will be published again and again. Ultimately it may prove to be THE classic story of the air war over Europe.

Published in Paperback by Pocket Books (January, 1989)
Average review score:

Excellent Coming-of-age bookThe Silver Desoto is an excellent book about a young girl who is caught between the small-time life during the depression and the Hollywood - characters she worships. Vividly portrayed are the people and friends she knows who are in high school and the lost loves and the consequences that occur.
If you can get this book, read this book. It is worth it!
About everyday life during the depression in OklahomaAn unforgettable journey into adulthood...rich with a sense of place and an understanding of human nature. A beautifully cut gem displaying a cameo of life during the depression years...there is humor...earthiness...irony.
We feel our own lives enlarged, deepened, matured as I read this book. Sometimes funny, always honest, and often deeply moving book.

Surgical Laparoscopy
Published in Hardcover by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Publishers (15 January, 2001)
Average review score:

Great For Anatomy! This is a situation that most medical students will recognise. You've been humiliated by a surgeon in theatre and you desperately need to brush up on the anatomy of the wrist but you're tired, you're hungry, it's late and you just can't face trawling through a big anatomy text book to find the tiny pieces of information that your consultant will appreciate. Anatomy Recall is the answer to their prayers. Crammed into this relatively slim book is just about all the material that you'd expect to find in a standard anatomy tome. The difference here is that the information is provided in edible chunks. The entire book is laid out in a question and answer format, dramatically increasing the fact:word ratio and boosting your ability to recall it when quizzed. Diagrams are only included where absolutely necessary (brachial plexus etc) and contents, indexes and other 'wasted' pages are cut to a minimum. This means that the book is small enough to fit into a white-coat pocket. However, there are probably more important things to occupy the bulging pockets of medical students and this book will stay on the shelf by day. Even so, the small size and bite-size nature of the text means that this book is perfect for reading on the bus, over breakfast or anywhere else that you can snatch a few moments. At the end of each chapter is a 'power review' section providing the most salient and memorable points for when time is really short. There is even a handy bookmark provided to allow you to cover the question answers for self-testing. The authors claim that Anatomy Recall and a good anatomy atlas are all a preclinical student would need to learn anatomy. Having been there, I tend to disagree and feel that the only way to get a solid grounding in anatomy is by studying a respected textbook such as Snell's Clinical Anatomy for Medical Students. Anatomy Recall is useful for brushing up on anatomy knowledge once the foundations are in place but the edifice above is crumbling and decayed. This is a book that, in my opinion, no medical student can do without.
anatomy made easythis book which is part of the immensley popular recall series focuses on active aquisition of knowledge as opposed to passive learning which is readily forgotten. With a topic as vast as anatomy, which is heavy on factual knowledge this text focuses in on key areas and delivers the must know facts clearly and simply. There are power review sections at the end of each chapter to help reinforce the most salient aspects of the anatomy and these really do aid with memorization of anatomy. It is not a replacement for a comprehensive text but with the aid of an atlas it is a fantastic method of maximizing your knowledge with minimum effort or as the series editor puts it high- yield information at your fingertips. buy it and get to grips with this immensley satisfying yet difficult topic.
Book comes complete with rare photos and a 1973 interview with the band's Road Manager, Peter Watts. Watts gives a very informative and detailed description of what the band did to achieve their live sound in the early 70's.
Tablature is perfect and true to the album note for note.
